this isn’t the most impressive drawing, but! it hints to what i’m starting to work on next. i got asked to contribute to this book getting reprinted. it’s a good book. it’s called moby dick. instead of going the route of the previous masterworks of Moser and Rockwell Kent, i’m shying away from the woodblock.
i really want to see moby dick in a different style. so…….i’m making a big classical composition painting out of it. totally titian/rubens style. that’s the plan at least…this one in particular is the sighting of the whale. complete with a signal flag, a guy mid moment in his smoke (slightly pointing to the harpoon getting readied), and of course the whale breaching in the back ground. i don’t have time to do more than a couple paintings, so i want to get as much natural narrative as possible! i’ll let you know how this goes: i’ve got a nice 50 inch canvas ready for it
